These string beans in spicy tomato sauce are a great side to any dish. The beans are cooked in a rich and spicy tomato sauce. We serve this delicious side over white rice but you could also serve it to pasta or potatoes.

Ingredients
- 500 g string beans
- 500 g tomatoes, quartered
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 can tomatoes, peeled
- 2 small onions, chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 5 thyme sprigs
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sambal oelek
Method

Clean the string beans and cut into pieces of about 1 cm.

Heat the olive oil in a large pan and fry the onion and garlic. Add tomato paste and fry for about 3 minutes.

Add the tomatoes, canned tomatoes, sambal oelek and thyme and bring to the boil gently. If necessary, lightly break the canned tomatoes with a wooden spoon so that you do not have large pieces.

Add the string beans and let simmer for about 40 minutes until the beans are cooked through. Add salt and pepper to taste.
